Mage Wins 2023 Kentucky Derby
Mage, ridden by jockey Javier Castellano, triumphs in the prestigious race
The 3-year-old colt surged late to win the 149th running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on May 6.
Mage's victory marks Castellano's first Kentucky Derby win in 16 attempts. The colt completed the 1 1/4-mile race in an official time of 2:01.57, overcoming odds of 12-1.
Mage's win sets the stage for the remaining two legs of the Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes. Castellano and Mage will look to continue their momentum and potentially capture the coveted Triple Crown title.
